Through a nationwide school initiative, BPI Foundation gives students access to digital learning tools and practical money management lessons to help them build a brighter future.
For thousands of Filipino students, learning about money management and gaining access to quality educational resources could be the first step toward a more secure future.
Recognizing the importance of education in building financially capable communities, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), through BPI Foundation (BPIF), is bringing financial literacy and technology-enabled learning closer to public schools nationwide, reaching more than 73,000 students and teachers.
At the heart of this effort is the FinEd Unboxed School Caravan, a nationwide partnership between BPIF and Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI). The initiative aims to make learning more accessible and engaging, particularly for students in underserved communities, by providing schools with digital educational resources and practical financial education.
Recently, BPIF and KCFI turned over Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) packages to 15 public high schools across Iloilo City, Guimaras, Zamboanga City, Basilan, Cagayan de Oro City, and Misamis Oriental. Five more schools in Rizal Province are scheduled to receive the packages in November.
Beyond providing educational equipment, the initiative represents an investment in the future of young Filipinos by giving teachers and learners additional tools to support classroom instruction and lifelong learning.
“At BPI, we believe financial education is a powerful tool for empowerment. By helping young Filipinos develop practical money management skills early, we can help build a generation that is more responsible, resilient, and prepared for the future,” said BPIF Trustee Catherine Santamaria.
Each KCTV package provides access to more than 1,500 educational videos and learning resources that can be accessed offline. This allows teachers to incorporate multimedia materials into their lessons, making classroom discussions more engaging and accessible even in areas with limited internet connectivity.
KCFI Vice President Edric Calma emphasized that the initiative goes beyond simply providing access to educational videos.
“The turnover of Knowledge Channel TV is more than providing access to curriculum-based video lessons. It is an investment in the future of every learner who will benefit from engaging, interactive, and relevant educational content designed to make learning more effective and meaningful,” he said.
Making financial lessons relevant to everyday life
Aside from supporting academic learning, the FinEd Unboxed School Caravan also introduces students to practical financial lessons through Estudyantipid, a learning series that makes money management easier to understand and apply in everyday situations.
The program covers essential topics such as saving, budgeting, responsible spending, entrepreneurship, and scam awareness. Through these lessons, students are encouraged to develop healthy financial habits and become more mindful of the decisions they make with money.
By introducing financial education at an early age, BPIF hopes to help young people become more responsible and confident as they navigate an increasingly digital and complex financial environment.
For BPIF, financial inclusion means more than simply providing access to banking services. It also means giving individuals the knowledge and capability to understand financial choices, manage resources, recognize risks, and make informed decisions.
