Keeping track of heart health can begin at home. With early detection and regular monitoring playing important roles in managing cardiovascular risks, OMRON Healthcare Philippines has introduced the OMRON Complete, a 2-in-1 blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring device, now available at Mercury Drug stores nationwide.
The device combines blood pressure monitoring with ECG capability, allowing users to check their blood pressure and screen for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib) using one unit. AFib is an irregular heart rhythm that can increase the risk of stroke, while hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular complications. Both conditions may go unnoticed without appropriate monitoring and medical evaluation.

The launch brings together OMRON Healthcare, Mercury Drug, and Medical Center Trading Corporation (MCTC), highlighting how health technology, accessible pharmacy services, and medical expertise can work together to encourage preventive care among Filipino families.
“Many of us don’t realize how much can be caught early with the right tools—a home blood pressure monitor that can also detect signs of atrial fibrillation, for instance, can be the difference between early intervention and a preventable emergency. That is exactly why today’s discussion matters so much,” said Jaime Espiritu, Mercury Drug vice president for operations.
Jim Martin Ancla, Sales Manager at OMRON Healthcare, emphasized the shared goal of making heart health solutions more accessible.
“Heart health isn’t something we should leave to chance, and it isn’t something any of us has to manage alone. Today, three organizations work together toward one shared mission: to make sure that reliable heart health solutions are within reach of every Filipino family, whether that’s through the technology we build, the pharmacies you trust, or the medical expertise that guides you along the way,” Ancla said.
Helping Filipinos Recognize Cardiovascular Risks Earlier
During the product launch at the Mercury Drug Shangri-La Plaza branch, Dr. Marlon T. Co, cardiologist and treasurer of the Philippine Society of Hypertension, delivered a lecture for Mercury Drug pharmacists on the importance of recognizing hypertension and AFib early.
He highlighted the role pharmacists can play in helping patients understand their conditions, follow appropriate medication guidance, and use reliable monitoring devices as part of their healthcare routines.
“Hypertension is the number one modifiable risk factor for atrial fibrillation, and it affects about 70% of AF patients. That’s why early blood pressure control matters—it reduces atrial changes that lead to complications. If we screen hypertensive, high-risk patients with ECG, we can catch subclinical AF before a stroke happens,” Dr. Co said.
He added that devices combining blood pressure monitoring and single-lead ECG technology can make screening more accessible outside hospital settings. However, home monitoring is not a substitute for professional diagnosis, and users should consult healthcare professionals about abnormal readings or possible signs of AFib.
More Options for Monitoring Heart Health at Home
Alongside OMRON Complete, OMRON also showcased the HEM-7383T1, a blood pressure monitor designed to detect irregular heart rhythms while providing blood pressure readings.
Both devices work with the OMRON Connect app, allowing users to track their health data and share relevant information with doctors or caregivers. This can help support discussions during medical consultations and provide a record of measurements over time.
