As the Philippines continues to pursue cleaner and more efficient energy solutions, Manila Water Company, Inc. (Manila Water) and Manila Water Philippine Ventures Cebu (MWPV-Cebu) are demonstrating how water utilities can contribute to sustainability beyond delivering essential water services.

The two companies earned podium finishes at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2026, recognizing their efforts in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Their achievements highlight how practical energy initiatives can help build more sustainable operations while supporting communities and the environment.

Manila Water’s 2.5-megawatt-peak (MWp) Solar Project, recognized as the largest consolidated solar installation in the Philippine water sector, placed 2nd Runner-up in the On-Grid Self-Consumption Category under the ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards.

Meanwhile, MWPV-Cebu earned 1st Runner-up in the Energy Management in Buildings and Industries – Small & Medium Industries Category under the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards.

The recognitions reflect the companies’ continuing efforts to integrate sustainable energy solutions into their operations and contribute to the region’s transition toward cleaner energy.

“Water is at the heart of what we do, but our responsibility extends beyond water. The clean energy transition is a long journey, and Manila Water is proud to contribute to shaping the country’s energy landscape toward a cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable future,” said Dr. King Verzola, Manila Water Energy Director.
Turning Sustainability Commitments into Action
Organized by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), the ASEAN Energy Awards recognize achievements in renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation, and sustainable energy management across Southeast Asia. The awards also encourage innovation, the sharing of best practices, and collaboration among ASEAN Member States.

The 2026 awarding ceremony took place on October 7 at the Museo del Galeón in Manila, alongside the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the 26th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-26).

For Manila Water and its operating units, the regional recognition builds on previous honors from the Philippine Department of Energy for renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives.

Arnold Mortera, Manila Water Chief Operating Officer for East Zone, said the awards affirm the company’s commitment to delivering essential services through sustainable and innovative solutions.

“These awards are a strong testament to Manila Water’s Vision of becoming a global leader in providing quality water and environmental services supportive of sustainable development, and our Mission to deliver world-class services tailored to the needs of the communities we serve through sustainable solutions and purpose-driven, empowered, and innovative teams,” Mortera said.
Building Resilience for Communities and the Environment
As climate challenges continue to place pressure on essential services, sustainable energy solutions are becoming an important part of building resilient operations. Manila Water’s initiatives reflect its broader efforts to create lasting value for customers, communities, and the environment while preparing for future challenges, including the potential impacts of a strong El Niño.

From water services to energy management, the company’s ASEAN recognitions underscore how investments in renewable energy and efficiency can contribute to a more sustainable future for the Philippines and the wider region.
