The days leading to the new year mean an abundance of treats like mooncakes and tikoy and trinkets like lucky charms and mystic knots at the Lunar Lucky Fair running from January 25 to January 29 at the Grand Atrium. It’s a must-see booth, especially for those who are preparing for their own Lunar New Year gatherings.
On the eve of the Year of the Wood Snake on January 28, head over to Streetscape, Shang’s stylish dining destination, to witness the traditional Eye-Dotting Ceremony, a ritual that “breathes life” into a lion or dragon, giving it the power to bring protection and good fortune. This will be followed by a majestic Fireworks Display to usher in the New Year.
Shang then starts off the Lunar New Year on January 29 in high spirits for all mall guests and tenants with a joyous Dragon & Lion Dance going around the different shops to bring luck and prosperity.
The 19th Spring Film Festival, the most celebrated Chinese-Filipino Festival, returns to the Shangri-La Plaza from January 29 to February 2, in partnership with the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies. Catch critically acclaimed films including the 2023 Hong Kong comedy-drama One More Chance starring renowned film actor Chow Yun-fat and the 2015 animated film Where’s the Dragon featuring the voice of celebrated Chinese star Zhang Ziyi.
Spring Film Festival is also turning the Grand Atrium into a hub for Chinese culture with back-to-back exciting activities such as the Chinese Calligraphy Workshop on February 1 at 1PM and a musical event featuring Filipino wushu athlete Agatha Wong, who’s a five-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, and the Wushu Federation of the Philippines on February 2 at 6PM.
