PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF), and the PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) are supporting the Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF) by donating six (6) Obstacles-in-a-Box for community sports and youth development.

These 12-in-1 obstacles-in-a-box will be established in gymnasiums, sports facilities, parks, and schools to promote obstacle sports and build safe spaces for fitness and recreation in various communities. Smart, MVPSF, and PSF will sponsor compact obstacle course boxes in Olongapo City, Cebu City, and four other locations nationwide.

“We consider it an honor to be able to continue supporting sports development in the country for the benefit of our youth and athletes and, ultimately, for that of the greater Philippine nation,” said Al Panlilio, President and CEO at Smart and Chief Revenue Officer at PLDT.

“Following the values that the group embodies when it comes to sports, the PLDT-Smart Foundation is delighted to be part of POSF’s vision to encourage every member of the community, especially the youth, to ignite their passion for sports,” said Ricky Vargas, Board Member at PSF. Vargas also holds key roles in the Philippine Basketball Association, Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines, and the MVP Sports Foundation; and heads PLDT’s Business Transformation Office.

“We would like to thank the PLDT-Smart Foundation for helping us realize our vision of Obstacle Sports-for-All-Everywhere where anyone, whether able-bodied, para-athletes, youth and kids, seniors and masters, can use the boxes,” said Alberto Agra, President of POSF.

The Federation is recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission as the national sports association on obstacle sports and affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO) or World Obstacle. In the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, the members of the POSF National Team bagged all the gold medals in the six events.

This is part of the broader program of PLDT and Smart to champion sports and provide opportunities for athletes as part of nation-building.
